Hello and happy Sunday!
We have had school half-term this week. As a result there has been very little time, so I am relishing a bit of a time and space today to decompress before the week starts again. How has your week been?
Last night I watched one of our coaches on our songwriting program perform a beautiful song that she had co-written, for the Danish
Eurovision selection. If you are not a fan of Eurovision then this may not be very exciting, however if you are a Eurovision fan then you will know that the season has begun and it is all about the heats and who will be representing which country at the final in Basel on 17th May 2025. Last night was a big event in Denmark, with 7000 people watching in the arena. Maria was one of eight artists to be competing to represent Denmark. Her song was absolutely beautiful, as was her performance. But
the competition was very strong and it was Sissal with the uptempo dance song called 'Hallucination' that was chosen. If you are intrigued and would like to listen to Maria's song, have a listen here.
It really is beautiful.
Why am I mentioning songwriting in a newsletter about processing weekly emotions I hear you ask? Or maybe you already know and I didn't need to say that! 😁
Creative writing as a creative outlet
I am interested in writing for wellbeing in whatever way that works. We can journal our thoughts and feelings, or we can put what we feel into a piece of poetry, or a song, or a fictional story. There are so
many ways to write and many things we can create with our writing. I love the simple act of handwriting on paper, as well as the sound of words. I admire those who can create fictional stories and novels. For me it is poetry and songwriting that are my preferred methods of expression. What do you like? Have you tried any forms of creative writing? Novels, short stories, poetry?
Creativity and clarity
This week I have been thinking
about creativity and letting our minds have random thoughts and ideas and finding ways to express those ideas in whatever way works for us. The flipside of having a creative mind can be that there are so many ideas and ways of seeing, that we can lose focus, or not know which direction to take. Indecisiveness can be an issue if we are always seeing possibilities. This is where writing helps. The journal is the place to keep all these thoughts and feelings, without judgement. Just offloading the
week into the journal, then reflecting on how we feel about that offload. We can then go into the new week knowing we are free to have many more thoughts and that is okay.
I will be processing my week later and am aiming to offload the busy week and reset my brain for the week to come. I hope that you also have some time to offload and process before another Monday comes around.
To offload and process to some music and forest trees, here's my YouTube video for a 15 min offload.
