Newsletter news
I just want to say thank you for bearing with me through the recent newsletter hiccups. I changed my newsletter provider, and whilst doing this I also tested out Substack with a small group of my subscribers.
I found out
this week that Substack will close your account if you just use it as a newsletter platform and this came as a surprise! So I have needed to find an alternative. But I was beginning to wonder if it was right for me and my subscribers anyway.
Despite checking and deleting the Pledge/Pay buttons on each newsletter, somehow Substack still found a way to put one on the end! Even though I deliberately went
into the settings and deleted these buttons and payment links.
I am sorry about this, please know that I would not ask you to pay for my newsletter.
But I do now have my newsletter platform in place with a standard email marketing
service, and hopefully all of those disruptions are behind me. It does make me aware of how quickly things change in software and how much we are at the whims of platforms and their algorithms. It makes me think again of the message to try and keep ownership of your own content if you can. Substack is of course only trying to keep a sustainable viable business going, but I don't want to charge my subscribers for receiving my newsletter so I can see that I don't fit their model. If you have been
running a newsletter on there, I wonder how you have found it?
I've had another switch of platforms for social media this week. Like many others I moved over to BlueSky from the other place and have been enjoying the fresh start. It feels so much like Twitter in the early days. But it is hard to not think about
where things ended up with that. I think we are learning and trying to reiterate with each new platform, and I hope that this means we are shifting and changing and not just going round in circles from one to the other.
I do feel a little bit jaded overall from social media posting. I'm not entirely sure why but part
of it is definitely due to time pressures. There seems to be so little time lately. How do you manage your social media time? Do you do it as and when you want to? Or only at a set time of the day?
Okay I will sign off for now and wish you a wonderful Sunday.
